Leningrad Cowboys Meet Moses
Director: Aki Kaurismäki
Year Released: 1994
Rating: 1.0
Half a decade has passed since the "events" of the original movie, and members of the rock outfit Leningrad Cowboys (with their trademark pointy hair and shoes) find some success in Mexico (where several die from chugging tequila) but are invited to perform in NYC: while there, they reunite with their former manager (Matti Pellonpää) who now wants to be called "Moses," he steals the nose off the Statue of Liberty, and then they drive around Europe and play random shows. The first film was a pleasingly strange glimpse at America through the eyes of a perpetually intoxicated Finn, but at least with that one he knew how far he could stretch the novelty of the premise - this, on the other hand, is devoid of even a few chuckles and is lacking any sort of inspiration. To make things worse, the songs played are neither lively nor memorable: it's as if the band, taking after the auteur, are "mailing it in" as well.
